Getting to Know the Sunflower Generation

Davidson College Commencement, 2016.

This site chronicles my adventure as a Cross-Strait Fulbright Scholar, a role that will allow me to spend time researching Taiwanese youth in Taiwan and in mainland China. I am a political scientist and teacher. I’ve been studying the Chinese-speaking world since the early 1980s. Since 1993 I’ve been a professor at Davidson College in Davidson, NC. I’ve written three books, including Why Taiwan Matters: Small Island, Global Powerhouse, an overview of all things Taiwanese for anyone interested in learning more about the Beautiful Island. This website is my personal blog, not an official Department of State website or blog. The views and information presented are my own, and do not represent the Fulbright Program, CIES/IIE, or the US Department of State.
